A note about the tempos: These full orchestral accompaniment tracks have been created with meticulous attention to and understanding of Verdi's every tempo, style and dynamic marks respecting his brilliant ability to express emotions and create dramatic and dynamic contrast. Tempos change everything about who a character is and what they are feeling. Thoughtful consideration was taken of the libretto, stage drama, "singability," breaths and stage movements. The accompaniments are therefore pure and true to Verdi's intentions while also providing for the realities of the live stage.
Quote of Verdi's regarding tempos: "And, what's more, a conductor who takes the liberty of changing the tempos!!!...We don't need conductors and singers to discover new effects; for my part, I declare that no one has ever, ever, ever been able to draw out all the effects conceived by me. No one!!! Never, never, neither singers nor conductors!!"
Verdi's tempos have been respected in the tracks below. Singers must learn how to find their characters and use their artistry within the tempos skillfully and thoughtfully provided by the Verdi.
That being said, attention was also paid to what has become "traditional" in the operatic world, such as fermatas or ritardandos that are not in the score since the romantic style has flowing tempos.
La Traviata cuts: The tracks below take the standard cuts in La Traviata.
